NFL Survivor Pool: Week 1
Updated: Sep 5, 2018
What is a survivor league?
It has been called an eliminator league as well. The way it works is that you pick one team in Week 1, if they win they you move on to Week 2. If they lose, you’re out. The catch is, once you choose a team you cannot use them the rest of the season so make sure to pick wisely.
What if I want to put in a pick weeks in advance?
Through our league we have opened the option to pick weeks in advance. This can be useful if you know you will be unavailable for a week, or if you are afraid that you’ll forget.
Who do I pick in Week 1?
Now we get in to the nitty-gritty and I will give you three options and explain why I would be open to picking any of these three teams:
Some may say they underachieved last year finishing 9-7, but in some aspects they actually may have over achieved. They dealt with a lot of injuries and made it challenging to finish the season with a winning record. The main reason I am choosing them this week, is that they are playing the Buffalo Bills this week. Buffalo is starting Nathan Peterman this week, and in my opinion… Nathan Peterman shouldn’t be in the league. He just is not very good, and the Baltimore defense is pretty good. I look for the revitalized front seven of the Baltimore defense to get after Peterman and the Bills O-line.
Pittsburgh is on the road and heading in to Cleveland this week to take on the Browns. I, myself am not going this route, but it will be popular. The Steelers are loaded on offense with the likes of Antonio Brown, Juju Smith-Schuster, James Washington, Leveon Bell (if he shows up), and Big Ben Roethlisberger to pull the strings. I think the Steelers put up points, especially if Bell shows up. As of now, Leveon has not reported to the team due to a contract dispute. Hopefully he shows up and is ready to play. The Browns were the laughing stock of the league last year as they finished the year without a win. So if you want, feel free to fire up the Steelers as your survivor pick.
Los Angeles Rams
The Rams head to Oakland to take on the Raiders as the late game on Monday night football. This is a matchup that they should dominate. They match up very well on the defensive side of the ball, and they have an improved offense. With Brandin Cooks coming to town, Jared Goff has a new toy to play with and I expect them to open the game with a deep ball to show case Goff’s ability to hit Cooks deep. Oh, and then they also have Todd Gurley III. He should run through this Oakland defense with ease and without problems. The only reason I am not going this route is that I plan on using them later in the year. That is the whole pick wisely comment I mentioned earlier.
