NFL Week 1 Survivor Picks

NFL Week 1 Survivor

Ahhh, football is back! Finally, some NFL after what seems like forever ago when the Chiefs took down the 49ers 31-20. We here at the Chunk pod are going to try our best to have a survivor article out each week.

In this article we will do a quick recap of the previous week’s games, and a quick preview of some of the games in the upcoming week that we are targeting with our survivor picks. All % spoken about will be brought to you via NFL.com’s survivor pools.

Opening with week 1 games there is obviously more unknown than normal with not having a preseason this year. So we are going to be looking at the games we have some confidence in as opposed to some 50/50 type of games.

Kansas City Chiefs (-9) vs Houston Texans

So as tradition goes the Super Bowl winner opens the season up on Thursday night, and we have the Chiefs vs Texans. As of writing this article we see the betting line at -9 in favor of the Chiefs. Out of the last 20 years the defending Super Bowl champs are 17-3 the following year in week 1. So, we are going to have the Chiefs as one of our picks this week. The offensive talent that the Chiefs have got even better during the offseason with the addition of Clyde Edwards-Helaire, one of the best fits per offenses that I have seen in quite some time. Obviously, not having Damien Williams hurts, but CEH will step in and be ready to take the load of the carries so that Patrick Mahomes, the leagues reigning MVP, does not have to shoulder all of the load. So, take the Chiefs with confidence and worry about making a week 2 decision next week.

Buffalo Bills (-6.5) vs New York Jets

We have a division rivalry here with the Bills vs Jets matchup. We also have a matchup of a coach that gets a ton of praise, Sean McDermott, and a coach who cannot seem to get out of his own way, Adam Gase. Aside from the playoff debacle against the Texans, McDermott seemed to make a lot of good decisions last season, and the same cannot be said for Gase. We are picking the Bills here as we feel the Bills are one of the best teams in the AFC East, and the Jets are going to be battling it out with the Miami Dolphins for the cellar of the division.

Baltimore Ravens (-8) vs Cleveland Browns

As we said in the opening, we are going with some teams that we have confidence in, and we have confidence that the Baltimore Ravens are going to be a good team this year. We do not have confidence in the Cleveland Browns. About the only thing going for the Browns to start the season is that they do not have the hype train that they had last year. We are picking the Ravens in what could end up being a week 1 repeat for the Ravens. If you remember last season, the Ravens beat the Dolphins 59-10 in week 1 in a game where Lamar Jackson silenced some critics finishing the game with a perfect passer rating.
